![]() As Cromwell looks into his past deeds with a fresh perspective, so does the reader and that growth makes the whole series feel deeper and more beautiful. The writing still remains one of the best parts of the book, her prose is gripping and, in this book particularly, thought-provoking. Readers are even given a peek into the King's mind too, in Mantel's beautiful prose. For two books we've seen Cromwell could understand and predict King Henry's desires and his ability to understand the king might come from their similarity. It could also show how Cromwell is a mirror of Henry. The title might signify how reflecting on his past made him see himself in a new light. He reflects on his deeds at many points in the book. ![]() Throughout the book, he seems to finally realise how his actions had adverse effects on the lives of others. This book starts with Anne Boleyn's body being taken away but her death weighing on Cromwell. In this book we see the story of their relationship to its end. In the previous two installments we have seen Thomas Cromwell rise to power by giving King Henry VIII of England what he wishes for. ' The Mirror and the Light' brings the Thomas Cromwell Trilogy to a spectacular finish. ![]()
